Activity Report

The Rotary Fellowship for Empowering Women Blood donation in Gulu, Kampala, Mbale, Mbarara and Kabale

The second goal of the Rotary Roses Program is to highlight the contribution of  women in community service and thereby increasing our impact in community service. One of the Service activities of the program are the quarterly blood donation drives.

Last Saturday the Roses joined forces to donate blood in the 5 regions of Kabale, Mbarara, Mbale, Gulu and the Central Region. Special thanks to the teams in the region’s most especially our Pink Roses through their Rotaract Clubs and supported by their mother clubs.

Additional thanks to our Red Petal and Pink Rose Blessing and team for the overall coordination and a big thank you to our partners, Uganda Red Cross, Mengo Hospital Rotary Blood Bank, Rotaract District 9211, Rotaract Ladies Initiative (ROLI) and Davis and Shirtliff. We could not have achieved our goals without your support – THANK YOU!

Overall the report on the turn up and the units collected per center is very impressive given that this was our first bold initiative including upcountry regions. Collectively we had 207 Units from the centers:

LocationUnits Collected
Kampala - Blood donation – At City square – 47
Kabale -Blood donation at Mayors Garden28
Mbale - Blood donation- @ KCB Market Street45
Mbarara Blood donation @ Kakoba Round about53
Blood Donation @ Gulu Main Market37

Just imagine if were to reach all the regions where Rotary is present –it would have been very impactful.

Nonetheless we did our best and were visible in the 5 regions. As Roses, we are passionate about the communities we serve and believe that the power lies with us to contribute whatever we can to improve the lives of those around us. There is still though a shortage of blood countrywide and the campaign goes on and on.

We intend to have quarterly blood donation drives, the next scheduled for December. However, this should not put a halt to any individual or potential donor to support this cause. A blood shortage affects everyone indiscriminately regardless of your standing in society. Any one above 17 years of age and in good health can become donor.

My special appeal to you dear Roses to mobilize your clubs, friends, families to donate blood when you can. Together we can save more lives!

Stay blessed!
